A couple idle observations.....

by
.....on the Complete Peanuts box sets....

1: The first and last box sets not only bookend the entire series, but they incorporate a "beginning" and an "end" in their main images, both of which are Charlie Brown, that seem to make sense when viewed together......

2: The fifth set, 1967-1970, is thematically perfect for the period it covers: the image is of Snoopy, as the "World War One Flying Ace" battling the Red Baron, background colour, red...... In 1967, a one-hit wonder rock group known as The Royal Guardsmen had their only hit, "Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron". Fearing they might get sued by Schulz and the strip's syndicate, they opted for a crudely drawn pic of the Red Baron for their single and first album cover. Instead, Schulz "officially" declared them the "official rock band of Peanuts", and offered to draw the covers for all subsequent albums of theirs. This ended up being their third & fourth albums under their original lineup, and a much later Christmas album under a different lineup.

I'll let you get back to the usual furry porn and YCH auctions........

Come to think of it, you're right.  I'd be surprised if the cover designer didn't have that in mind when they submitted the final designs.  They'd probably appreciate your being one of those few who caught all that.  Also, that was quite wise and big of Schulz to do that.

Schulz was more open-minded than I think many would give him credit! Sure, he loved jazz, but with characters like Peppermint Patty and Woodstock, he was certainly receptive to the changing culture, which also was often reflected in Snoopy's characterisation!

I have to look more at the boxes to see if there are any other worthy connections, it's just these two observations stood out as much to me right off. :)
