I'm Back, Baby (Almost)

Hey everyone! I'm back! Or, I'll be back pretty soon. My life exploded in the worst possible way and I had to go away for a while. I'll be posting again pretty soon. I'm living in a shelter right now, but I'll be moving into a place on the 15th, and after that I've got to get some funds in my Google Colab account so I can get access to a proper GPU. Maybe by the end of the month?

I've got big plans! I've been doing a lot of research, and I think I've developed a workflow which will let me do comics. The TL;DR is that I'll be using 3D models of characters and the "character-sheet trick" I developed earlier to make datasets of characters for LoRA. I'll also probably try training a ControlNet for character consistency, but that's long term. Once I can reliably recreate the same character, I'll build the "environment" of the scene in 3D also, and populate it with all the objects in the scene accordingly.

This gives me control over what's in the image and also the camera angle and poses. I'll then render each distinct entity on its own layer, using 3D models and ControlNet, inpainting and manual sketching and repairs as needed.

This opens a lot of doors. I've got a few comics in mind that I want to explore, the panther boys from my "Imminent Incest" from ages ago are front of mind, and a few others. I'm excited.

First and foremost is training a new style. This starts by finding the best furry diffusion model I can (NovaFurry works pretty well, but things may have changed while I was away). Then I think I'll scrape screenshots of cartoons and anime off netflix to build a little library of style lora. The ideal is that these, in conjunction with some generic stylistic keywords, will let me establish a style that's definitively mine without borrowing too heavily from any existing illustrators.

I've been researching my thesis, and my research has given me a new appreciation for AI ethics. Going forward, I intend to adhere to a gold-standard. I'm not sure what the gold standard is, to be frank, but I'm open to your suggestions. I'll be offsetting my carbon, and, if I start a Patreon I'll be donating a chunk of my revenue to arts charities. Whatever is left that I don't spend on R&D I'll redistribute to the real illustrators by purchasing commissions. I'll be doing everything I can to establish a style which respects other artist's integrity. Above all, I'll be developing tools and workflows which give AI users more control: in my mind, there's nothing wrong with using a neural network as a rendering engine, provided the style you're rendering is respectful of existing artists and the image composition is something you poor your heart into. Basically, you're relying on the neural net to handle the rendering, but the scene and the ideas are yours from the beginning.

As an aside, I'll be looking into developing tools for better emotional expressiveness.

My old gallery won't be making an appearance again, but if you'd like to see it I do know where it's been archived.

There's a long road before I can get the first page of the first comic done, but I'll make sure to throw you horny furs a few bones between now and then.
