I've been putting a considerable amount of thought into this today for no real reason and I think I've come up with some rule/facts for some one who was suddenly turned into their fursona in the real world.
So the scenario: you wake up in the morning with a stretch and realize you feel different. Looking down, you notice you've turn into your fursona while you slept. What do you do now?
Freaking out of pawing off are the most likely first reactions to this situation but lets move past that. On average, most furries are going to be stronger (depending on species) and faster (depending on species) than the average human so you start with a slight advantage in addition to heightened senses. Now species who are on the more mythical or fantasy level (demons like myself) are going to have more of an advantage since you'd have access to some level or magic or you can fly with wings or your scaled hide is bullet proof or your cyborg parts turn into a death ray, ect.
After a moment to get yourself together and grasp the situation, you're either going to want to show yourself off or hide away so you don't freak people out. My estimate based on human nature and things I've seen in movies would be that the best course of action would be a public reveal which is as public and documented as possible, preferable in front of a news crew. Why you might ask? Because the more secretive you are and less known you are, the easier it is for you to vanish. Be it the government snatching you up at night or some cult, being the only furry on Earth means SOME ONE will be coming to take you away. If you just make youtube videos of yourself to expose your existence, it can be played off as AI deepfakes or something and you can vanish without questions. If you play local super hero, the only people who know you are the locals and some internet conspiracy people. You want to come out loud and proud so that EVERYONE knows who you are so if you come up missing, people ask questions.
So you've come out to the world, now what? Given human nature, there's a good chance you're no at gun point with a bunch of trigger happy cops surrounding you. Why? Because its human nature, depending on what species you are. Say your a 20 foot long snake with arms, ya, guns are pointed at you. Now here's the fun part, the only way this would really work unless you did some thing amazing like save some kids from a fire or healed some one using magic is for you to be super-man. Why? Because unless you have real power, you're going to be hauled off by the cops at first and then my the government after and most likely a science lab after that. The only way that doesn't happen is if you're too powerful for them to push around. Which leads to... The fight. Say your character is a 10 foot tall humanoid dragon who's scales can stop small arms fire. Ya, you'll survive the shooting but its still going to hurt and at some point you're going to have enough of it and start attacking in defense which of course will be consider just an attack and not defensive because that's how it always happens. People provoke monster, monster fights back, monster bad. Now depending on your abilities and powers, this could go a couple ways. Eventually stronger forces are going to respond, probably the national guard or other military and it'll escalate from there. Or if you kicked ass and took names, there's a chance it might deescalate once they realize there's no chance of over powering you and some one realizes talking it out is a option. Me personally, I'm sure it'd end in a fight as I'd not be interested in submitting and being cuffed and other BS for "Their safety" while we talk it out.
So you've survived the initial issues, now what? You can expect to spend the new week or month or year in confinement as multiple people question you and loads of scientists poke at you. You've caused a national uproar on camera and now every one is on the look out for the next furry to show up. Other countries (depending on your performance during the combat) are now also looking into you as you hold power and who controls that power is important on a global scale (remember the watchmen movie?). If where you're taken is publicly know (which is won't be) they'll have protestors and fans gathering out side making trouble. If by chance your actual identity is found out (say some one looks online and finds pictures of your character and then of human you, doxxes and finds your family) then your friends and family will be having issues at this point. Depending on your powers/abilities, the government most likely isn't going to just let you walk free and will probably give you the "Work for us or stay locked up" line. Again, depending on your abilities, you'll either agree and help them out or fight your way out which means they'll never stop coming after you (congratz, your the hulk now).
Now lets say, for the sake of argument, cooler heads prevail and after they've done all their BS, you're released. Now you have to deal with the public... Expect to be spending a lot of time on TV or being interviewed, having tons of people wanting to hire or represent you, as well as a ton of fans and a lot of religious nuts bugging you endlessly. Again, where you go from this point depends on your powers/abilities but you'll never know a moment of peace as your novelty will take a long time to wear off if it ever does.
