ugh, tired of this gaming trend

Why is it that so many developers nowadays can't understand why someone would want to clear their progress and start a fresh game? Too many times now I've wanted to just "new game", but so many elements of my previous game have to carry over, things that I found fun to build and earn, and wanted to do so again, making the "new game" feel kind of empty, or they force a "new game +" which is great when I want it, but not so much when I want to start fresh.

Starbound's main quest and initial universe generation carries over to every new character, unless you do a search for where and what to look for, because you can't just delete your save and start over, no you have to delete a specific folder in order to fully reset the universe, or the main quest starts as complete from the very beginning, locking you out of it permanently without knowing where to find the damn files.

And then there are the games where you can't restart at all without looking up where the hell to find the saves! This shouldn't be a thing!! There's a DLC on Shadow of Mordor, the Celibrimbor one, that I've not been able to play more than once because the game seems to leave some permanent trash somewhere, nobody seems to know where it is, that prevents you from replaying it, even if you uninstall and reinstall the game!

New cockdamn games! Bring them back! No more hidden saves!

I wouldn't know, I haven't really played any games made after 2007 lol
However that was the time that stuff started getting stupid & made me stop.
(Was clear they didn't bother debugging as much, hyped up games were getting worse, couldn't try out games by renting due to the places devoting 95% of the shelves to a bajillion copies of a few sports & war games, etc)

But I hear the vaporware issue is getting worse, just that there kinda guarantees I'll never buy anything ever again.

*Well, Sonic Colors was made in 2009 maybe, but I never had time to get past a few of the intro stages, plus the emu has a bit of trouble running it.
I'd probably prefer playing through actual purchased copies(free feels cheapened, insincere somehow), but the ship has sailed on those long ago.

I haven't played many past that era either. Thankfully the vaporware issue doesn't affect me since I purposely avoid hype culture like the plague, particularly since people don't seem to learn any lessons from it and jump right back on that train the next day after they get burned for the millionth time. I mean, if I'm gonna expose myself to game release hype at all, why would I trust anyone who hypes up a game that's later released in a terrible state, ruined by monetization, or not released at all, only to fall for the same scams again.. and again... and again...? That seems to be the only option, too. It's also gotten to the point that buying a game on release day is VASTLY over-rated, to put it kindly.

Also, just the other day I cancelled my promotional emails from GoG since 1, they often hype games with 50 DLC, and 2 I've just learned that their "no DRM" thing seems to be more of a suggestion, really. There's only one way to ensure I get a game with no DRM, and that I won't be locked out of if I can't access certain gatekeeper software. Unless regulation catches up where it should be, I've pretty much given up on BUYING games, yarr-harr.

Come to think of it, James Stephanie Sterling seems to be the only gaming news Youtuber I know of who seems to actually learn from getting burned by game companies, and fucking remembers it.

Ugh, yeah, sometimes you want a proper clean break from an old save...

Steam's cloud saves can mess up saved game deleting and stuff, it might be the case that you can fix the celebrimbor DLC issue by disabling cloud saves first? (assuming steam edition of the game).

But honestly, even with persistent stuff, games should always have a "nuke my save" option :\

I haven't bought anything from Steam in a long time, and won't from there or any other requiring a hard-drive gatekeeper again after they pulled the rug out from under me before. No, the main game and the other DLC on SoM resets when you delete the save in game, just not that one.

edit: possible they fixed the issue and my version doesn't have that implemented.

Ooof, yeah, if a service like that pulled my library, they'd lose my custom too.

Haven't played SoM in such a long time, I barely remember the DLC, maybe I'll reinstall it.
