The judge has just ruled in favor for asylum! They are still wrapping up in the courtroom, and there will be some paperwork before they are released, but we WON!

For those asking, it will still be a few days before Bastion is released.
There is going to be a long period of healing that is needed, and we will not have a work permit right away either, so please bear with us as we will not be returning to public life immediately. We love you all and we will check in where we can, but Bastion's health and recovery have to take priority.

Our original visa was destroyed without cause. Unfortunately there is nothing that can restore a visa once it is destroyed, you need to be issued a brand new one.
Rather than waiting another 5+ years for a new marriage visa, the judge ordered a new Asylum visa be issued for us. It will allow us to live and work in the United States, and protects us from many forms of deportation.
The route to citizenship is still a complicated one, and may take us many more years, but at least we will be able to do it together.

I've just found out that asylum cleared immigrants have been given until April 29th to leave the US. Not necessarily to their origin country. I really hope that he was not in one of the targeted programs.
This was related to Humanitarian Parole, which was a Biden-era program that they did apply for, but never received. Fortunately, that doesn't apply here, but the pause on green cards is going to be a bit of a pain in the near-term. Not insurmountable, but a pain.

Our laws are meant to protect the innocent and facilitate fairness and it seems you were wronged by overzealous agents who literally violated your right to engage in good faith with the immigration process on legitimate terms.
I can only wish you both the best and hope the path to citizenship is a lot less bumpy going forward. You tried to do the right thing and you were wronged without cause, I hope this doesn't sour your opinion of our country permanently.
Some people can be overzealous and lose the forest for the trees when tragedy and unfairness strikes innocent people, so I hope you both can take your time to heal and find comfort in the coming months. I refuse to assign malice to what can be explained by ignorance, but the agents who destroyed your original visa should be held accountable since they violated your rights and your attempt to engage in good faith with the immigration systems we have specifically to help people come here legally and engage in good faith with our country and people.
