Is Sonic Frontiers any good?

by
Anybody played it? I'm interested in picking it up but not sure if it's worth it. I've been pretty skeptical of the open world direction it took. Game just looks kinda empty from pics. Recommend or pass?

i'd personally pass. I got it on release day, and yeah it feels very full of 'nothing' between the bits of interest :(

Also a lot of nothing in the overworld. I picked it up for 10 bucks at a local thrift shop to see. Played once, never had the mindset to pick it back up. Maybe one day. I had a better time with Lost World tbh.

No idea. Last Sonic game I played was Adventure 2 on Dreamcast. All the way back in 2001.

Personally I loved it.
I honestly don't know what the first two commenters are on about, The open world had lots of stuff to do.
Sonic controls well, the music as always is great and the voice work is good.

From what I’ve seen, it’s basically just Sonic mixed with Breath of the Wild, Majora’s Mask, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. It brings nothing new to the table, and Kellin Quinn of Sleeping with Sirens is only on the soundtrack because Pierce The Veil’s song “King For A Day”, on which he was featured, trended on TikTok.

I’d personally pass on it, from what I’ve seen others post.

I thought it was fun! But, it does suffer from the 'go here, collect this' that most open world stuff suffers from, so sometimes it's a chore to have to travel long distances over the islands to get to where you need, and it DOES involve having to collect a ton of keys to progress the plot.

I liked it a little more after all the free updates, especially the jukebox / choose your music update. Adding a second alternate ending did seem a little weird to me, however.

The game also has a ton of pop in, even on the best systems, so even though still photos look like there's not much to do, there is more to it than those pics can show off.

Personally I think if you can find it on sale for a low enough price, maybe around the holiday's, it's a good game to pic up and try, and then trade it in if you find it's not really for you.

I don't know if I should say anything or not as it was the first Sonic game I played, but I like it. It's kind of open world, but it has some great boss fights!

It's a derivative skeleton of a game that's total ass until you get to the expansion at the end  where it feels like someone slapped the developers and did their best to get them on the right track with what they had. If they do another one like it, it'll probably be pretty good.

The only thing I know about it, I'm afraid, is that it once again did a poor job understanding Amy.  Hope you have fun if you get it though.

I personally loved it. Top three 3D sonic games of all time in my book. If you're really unsure about it, I suggest watching somecallmejohnny's sonic frontiers review on YouTube to get more insight on the goods and the bads of the game.

The gameplay and mechanics of the boss fights were pretty cool, and the challenges were tough but exciting. The only problem was the story and how swiftly it moves along. The open world mechanic means you really are basically going from area to area, collecting the things you need in small and sometimes complicated challenges to get the item you need, and it can be a bit grindy to get what you need. Also its not easy to tell which order to talk to all the characters on the map, like it will show multiple of say... Amy at one point and its not clear which one you go to first and turn in the certain collectibles to get the story info.

It's very divisive. Not only does it feel like a Sonic fangame made in Unity, it also feels like a Metal Gear Rising fangame. Better than PoS Superstars though, maybe

If you're skeptical get it on a sale.
I got it on launch and liked it a lot, but I really enjoyed just running around and the movement, doing the various cyberspace stages (these are traditional levels, but rather short) as a break from the less structured open world stuff. It's basically a big playground with some goals, kind of like a Sonic style skate park almost (but with more on-rails stuff).
There are also some setpeices in the open world that play more like traditional Sonic levels as well. The boss fights are a bit jank but very hype (as is with basically every Sonic game).

If that sounds fun to you, go for it.
